Washington County Sheriff's Dept. Activity Sept. 19th, 2002 State Rd 135 just south of Rudder Rd.

This accident occurred on Thursday Sept. 19th 2002 around 5:30 PM. The brown Thunderbird was heading south on State Road 135 and the silver Dodge Intrepid was heading north when they collided on a hill crest. There was one occupant in the Intrepid and a mother and 6 year old daughter in the Thunderbird. Pekin Deputy Marshal Libka responded from Washington County Detention Center as the closest unit and was first onscene.

On scene aid was rendered by Washington County Ambulance and first responders from Salem Fire Dept. Salem Firemen also provided extrication for both drivers and wash down after the investigation. Both drivers were transported by helicopter to University Hospital Louisville, KY. The little girl was taken by helicopter to Kosairs Childrens hospital.

The accident investigation was performed by Washington County Sheriffs dept and Indiana State Police reconstructionest with assistance from the Salem City Police dept. Salem City Police assisted with traffic control the setting up of landing zones for the helicopters. The highway was shut down for several hours while the investigation was performed.
